After recently installing front & rear Maxidrives, I also worried about the strength of the standard trailing arms. I had some made up from 44mm solid bar, because that's what my mate had on hand (for free). They're fairly heavy, but no more than the front hockey sticks.

I elected to keep them straight and go with the LRA offset bushes to compensate for the lift. Here's the offset bushes compared to standard:
