		IMO, get one of the 300TDi versions ('94/'95 MY onwards). They're a lot more refined. Personally, I don't like the early Discos as the load space is crap. The Series II (TD5) Disco is a much better vehicle IMO... You've got a decent sized load area for a start.

 Hmmm.... I wouldn't have said that it was completely gutless. What you could well be driving is a vehicle that was starting to have problems with its fuel pump.
A common problem with the pump on the 200 & 300 TDi units is for the mechanism which controls the fuel delivered vs boost pressure to sieze up. It's a very simple problem to cure but until you do, when you put your foot down, all you're doing is increasing the amount of air getting into the engine but the fuel supply is staying at the same level as tickover!!!!
She will drive OK around towm but on the open road it'll be like driving a gutless wonder... She'll also struggle to get over 100 kph.
