he is a good, honest mechanic and his wife is good for a laugh... but he is straight to the point and some find him to be a little rude, but if there is something about land rovers that he doesn't know, it is not worth knowing, so don't be put off by his lack of "bedside manners"..
I know quite a few people who travel quite a distance to get there car serviced by him :wink:
I'm guessing that the oil cooler if it on the side of the engine, is meant to be cooled by the water passing the outside of it??? Or by the air being forced past it???
Unfortunately I haven't had anything to do with the later models, so I am trying to work it out by what you are posting, or if anyone else has this motor let me know if I'm on the right track???

And yes, Chris, the oilcooler is on the side of the engine inside a cast fitting through which the coolant flows. Sorry if my explanation was not too clear - guess I was a little more focussed on my problem than making sure my posts were OK :?

I have a workshop manual for 99 defender td5.
As soon as I sell the defender I will be looking to get rid of the workshop manual too, let me know if you are interested....

Take it easy there mate. The reason I was trying to get an explanation was to see the what the differences where between my 93 model and your 99 model. I am a Diesel Mechanic by trade for the RAAF and I was trying to work it out here to help you find the fault for it - another words exactly what is causing it.

I worked with Justin for three years whilst there. He is now a Reservist for us! He currently has moved out towards Abercrombie N.P last I heard. His knowledge of Land Rovers was very handy. He taught me a lot of the civialian ones whilst he was there (I only knew the MILSPEC ones).
A great bloke to top it off, if you see him, tell him Chris said G'day. He probably doesn't know I'm up here yet!
