Disco V8 questions

2 weeks ago I bought a 1995 Disco ES V8 auto with 98000km, and I have a couple of questions.

1. City driving is 25L per 100 km normal fuel consumption? The motor is really sweet ,no knocks ,leaks, smoke or rattles.

2. Would a decent exhaust system and say a K & N filter improve performance without increasing fuel consumtion? Or is there a better way?

3. Any other tips would be great as this is my first Land Rover (or any 4X4 for that matter).

Thanks in advance

Hi xlr8it,

From all my investigations that seems pretty much about correct, most people told me between 20-25 avg around town, dependant on the size of your right foot, you can improve it but dont expect big gains, it was the main reason I ended up getting a diesel, especially now with the fuel prices going up as quick as they are

Regards Glen.

BTW at least the V8 sounds good, not much compensation at the bowser though

Do not fit a K&N on a system with a Hitachi Mass Airflow Meter. The Hitachi does not have a "burn off" cycle so it quickly becomes fouled with oil from the K&N and reads wrongly.
I think a 95 still has a 14 CUX but I do not really keep track of Disco model year changes.

They will do around 20 give or take. Common fault is the Vac advance diaphram fails, engine runs fine but uses more fuel, also factory timing 2 btdc this is for emissions, set it to 7-8btdc. As Phil said forget the K&N

Thanks for the info guys.
Is there a way to test if the vacuum advance is faulty?

Cheers

Pull the hose of the plenum chamber and suck on it, see if it holds vac.

I bought a Rossignol V8 new in 1995 and was amazed to get about 320ks from a full tank around Sydney, but on a run, did many into the bush, a tank would go about 600ks.

The way it is!

Cheers, Gq

About right

I get 20-25l/100k's around town, quiet driving. Trips @105km/h regularly get 15.7l/100k's, about 430km to fuel light. Recent Dyno test at TAFE said mixture was spot on on cruise, but a bit rich at other times which they said was normal. The joys of a V8 Disco.

Cheers
