    Thanks,
I did that and the rear battery is stuffed as it no longer holds a charge. Will replace. A mate is in Perth on holidays and he picked us both up an Arrid twin charger tonight from the 12volt shop. Maybe I don't need it but I would rather be sure.

One more point, it might pay you to go to an auto electrician and get your alternator load tested.

If the voltage drops like it did and your front battery had the same voltage drop as the rear battery, the problem may simply be that it’s time to get the alternator serviced.

Having a voltage drop at the rear battery is common but to have the same low voltage at the front battery is not common place, especially while you revved the motor.

You can do a simple load test by starting your motor and leave it at idle speed and measure the battery’s voltage, ( do not have the rear battery connected while testing ) Now turn the headlights on and test the voltage again. If the voltage drops slightly, rev the motor and see if the voltage recovers.

If it does then you may or may not have a problem with the alternator.

If the voltage does not recover then you can pretty well say you have a problem.

This is not a conclusive test, just one that can give you some idea of the state of the alternator but an auto electrician can do a proper test.
    Cheers.

Instead of paying an autoelectrician I would probably just take it back to the dealer as the car has only done 9000km

I wouldn’t trust most dealers to have the slightest idea about vehicle electric's but it is a good place to start.
    Keep us informed, cheers.

how old is the rear battery?

if batteries arent used enough they will die as the plates oxidise and stop it from charging and discharging as it should.

I am going to install a Twin Battery Set Up - as per my last set up in the Defender .
Spoke to Graeme Cooper today - and he still recommends this set up for most Land Rovers - including the Disco Series 2 .
It's easy to install yourself - and has no electronic management systems that can foul up or leave you stranded out in the Bush with no power .
I have installed and tested this set up personnally on two vehicles and I have full confidence in the system .
Contact - Graeme Cooper Automotive - Sydney - for more details .
    Thank's Guy's ,
    Kev .
    Kev,

Hope you are going to install yourself, I got a quote from Graham Cooper a couple of years ago for dual batteries and a marine isolator $900 a bit over the top in my books.

Actually Kev, you are more likely to end up with two flat batteries while using a manual switching system and less likely to have problems with GOOD quality electronic charge controllers.

Fact, properly designed electronic devises are at least 100 times more reliable then their mechanical counter part.

But if your happy with it then go with it.

    Cheers.
