Hi p38arover, I tried every thing. Kero, turps, prepsol, even tried paint stripper. It was the guy a Selleys that put me on to the tile cleaner.
It works like tooth paste and gradually scratches the polish off.
It didn’t mark the glass in any way but it took months, doing a bit of the screen at a time.
I have never used wash and wax since and I won’t let them was my vehicle when it goes for a service.

I find Rain-X a good product - must clean the screen well beforehand.
Once it's on you even use your wipers less, as the rain just runs off the windscreen. I re-do the screen with Rain-X every 3-6 months - NW.
I know bikies use it on their visors for the same reason.

Interesting comment from the wife "why are you buying it new windscreen wipers, we've had the Astra three years and the wipers are fine on that"
yeeees....but...
- the Defender has 32,000k, the Astra 34,000km so in terms of hours of use the Defender is probably ahead given it does a lot of low-range work
- the Defender's wipers have had to deal with mud, dust, locusts, flies, bird poo, snow, branches, dirt and sometimes water.....the Astra's have had to deal with water.
hence they need replacing!!
Also depends on if it sits outside most of the time as the sun can perish the rubbers as well.Quote:

Road grime in the case of the astra can be wearing as well but not as damaging as branches with the defender.

That's true, both live outside a fair bit but only the Defender has had to deal with the outback sun, the radiant smiles of admirers, and the heat of jealousy from Nissan owners!
I notice correctly thast a lot of ppls are saying give the windscreen a good clean.

But heare's a way that is simple and cheap and no need to elbow grease.
Use chemtecs CT18 Trcuk wash concentrate.
$6.99 a litre at supa crap , 1 litre makes 100 litres of car wash.
Use a small amount undiluted directly on a dry sponge , wipe it on and LEAVE IT on for at least 10 mins or overnight if you have time. Don't worry about it drying.
Then simply wash off for an amazingly grime free, road sludge free windscreen that feels like a new one and then watch those wiper babies go!
Chectec is great stuff and is neutral , very good for washing the truck off after going bush,- leaves it sqeaky clean for the supermarket forays.
