    300tdi valves adjustment taughts

    Hi All!!!

Did some valve adjustments as I heard some ticking noise from cyl. head area.
Valves were from 0.4 to 0.55 on cold engine. Is this considered 1. A little bit out. 2. Out a lot 3. Holy c*ap out?
I readjusted back to 0.2 mm spec. Didn't help much with ticking noise tough, but it looks like it improved.
Checked stem caps as well, they seem to be in good nick, bit of sideways movement on stem, but apart from that, no uneven wear, no cracks or anything similar.
Felt rocker faces with my finger as well, they all seem smooth and I couldn't feel any pitting.
My main concern was that I noticed some of the rockers were not sitting on the cap in the center. Please see photo. Now I know some shimming needs to be done on the valve "shaft". But is the current condition considered still acceptable or get it sorted out ASAP???

    Thanx for your taughts!!!

I cant see the photo's but you shouldnt need shims unless the bosses arent all level.

    Aren't you an early bird

I don't know what "boss" you mean. I meant shims that will move rocker along the shaft to center them onto stem cap.

They are designed that way to aid in rotating the valve during operation. For other ticking sounds, check for compression leaks at rear of head, and loose injectors.

Ah OK I see what you mean. But to me it seems some are centered and some are not. Interesting!

Looks pretty much like every other pushrod OHV setup I've ever seen, and that's a few.

So nothing to be concerned about then by the looks of it as far as centering goes.

What are taughts on clearances being out of wack?
