As for modifications
There's nothing cheap. You will need to replace EVERYTHING in the gearbox for new and it will handle what you'll ask within reason. It'll however snap axles instead, easier repair than a gearbox I'll admit.
Could try nitriding stuff, and that's not cheap either.
Alternatively somewhere I heard/read nissan 5 speeds were supposed to or have been made to fit and are much stronger than the Land Rover or Hilux setup. Not a cheap swap but more durable. You'd better rebuild this one before it goes back as well because 5th gear whines more than the landy transfer with age.
It's more the "walking around" on the tyres at that speed that's the scary bit, rattles just help you be sure that part is still thereQuote:
