    Replacing Gems P38 OBDII socket

    Hey guys,

I have a mate with (what I believe) a buggered OBDII socket. At the least, I'd like to remove the pins and clean them up, I would prefer to remove and replace the socket entirely as it's seen better days.

    Two questions!

Is it hard to remove the pins/wires from the existing socket (just looking at it I am unsure how to do this).

Is it a common thing to need replacing, or do you believe just cleaning the pins would be sufficient?

    Cheers

Remove the plastic insert from the back then you can release the pins with a jeweler's screwdriver if you know how cos there is a locking tab on them but i can't explain you in words how... it's not the best film but you can make an idea [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcAtqmoEOJM[/ame]

    Lee Bourgeois (Labtronx) has them:
    Data Connector

There's also various OBDII link leads on eBay too if you just want to splice a replacement into the existing wiring.

    Thanks fellas.

That's a good idea Scott, I hadn't thought of that - would allow a Bluetooth device to be near-permanently mounted to it as well!

I might do both, replace the existing and splice another in.

    Cheers

The only problem I can see is that the replacement socket might not clip into position like the original.

There's also various length extension on eBay too, if you wanted to have one for easy access on the drivers side.
