Nah sound and volume still sounds pretty much the same to my tone deaf ears (occupational hazard). Tried to take a video today of the smoke but didnt come out too well, will try again tomorrow in different light.

Just an update, been busy with work so not much has happened. Have the car booked in for next thursday to get the timing and injection pump settings checked. And at no cost, which is good and I am grateful for, as I'm pretty much broke.
Is definitely running better with the new lift pump, but smoke and cold start still an issue. Ran some fuel treatment thru but has made no difference that I can tell.
I'll give another update next week when I get the car back and know more...hopefully. ..

Just got back from picking my car up and she is back to normal, driving really well, no loss in power :)
Apparently the injection pump settings were out and it was under fuelling. Timing is all good. Still blowing smoke though, mechanic reckons it is burning oil, possibly my valve stem seals or the rings. Seeing as the engine was rebuilt and a new head put in 3 and a half years ago I would have thought (hoped) that these should be all good.
Now to start getting on to some of the other jobs that need urgent attention, like the rear brakes and replacing the rear ball joint...
Anyway, at least I have my baby back :):):)
