This will give you a good burst on what the different ratios/gearsets are for tfr cases.
Are you in NZ? If so how are the apples? ;-)

The torqueflite in the rangie uses a scout case and this is not interchangeable with a stock chrysler 727. You will need the extension housing of the rangie t/flite and fit that to a chrysler box then the 318/340/360 will bolt up.Quote:

How do I determine which model? I'm assuming at this stage its from a 3 speed 727. I hope so as I want to mate it to a chrysler 318 v8.
Dont let that bit of heresy put you off educating me.

Hey thats something I hadnt heard - thanks for the heads up.
I didnt mention that fact that the trans/converter is still there but said to be cooked. Judging from the crap that came out of the trans sump they were honest about that. Transferbox oil was used but pretty clean (still transparent) so I'm hopeful that their word (transferbox is good) has some accuracy. Do you know if the Rangie tailshaft is the same as stock 727? Sounds like it might be different otherwise the need for scout extension housing. I'd forgotton scouts used 727 though I seem to remember International gear was 345 and 392 big block v8. Big heavy duty engines that did big milage and drank petrol. I have only seen isolated transferboxes with International gear though my memory isnt what it was. A friend of mine used to have a D1300 4x4 towtruck with 392 and auto (likely a 727) that I always admired the torque of many moons ago. I used to joke then about wanting a 392 in my then stage one but woulnt pass the inspection because of the springs would end up inverted due to the weight. His truck used a New Process transfer box which was isolated and joined by a very short driveshaft to the auto.
Tell me more if you know,
cheers
