Thread: 3rd Gear Lockup - 4HP22 Where?

After a lot of research and waiting till I can afford it, I've decided to get the 3rd gear lockup conversion done to my D1 300TDI Auto. I do a lot of towing and it seems likea good thing to do. I'm happy to do the work myself if I can get an appropriate valve body to swap in.

But, have hit a bit of a snag. Manuel Automatics, the go-to guys for this apparently, are telling me that it could be a while before they are able to do this conversion, as it involves sourcing a doner box from a BMW, can't be done to a Land Rover valve body they say. I've called them, emailed them and they said they would be in touch with no promise or idea of when. I get the impression they are not really interested, or too busy.

Does anyone know of any other source for this work / part please? I'm in Melbourne, but stuff can be shipped. Had a look for anything being sold with this done to it already, and there is one Ebay option - but I don't really want the whole box, and there's no guarantee that the work done on it is OK.

It looks like they cut a slot in one of the galleries in the main valve block to allow 3rd pressure to also actuate lockup. The main valve block did change over the years so either it is not possible due to gallery config, or possible, but not researched and tested on the newer block. Sorry, no easy answers.
