I know I will probably be flamed but I would think you could get any number of Pajero 2.6 petrols, and 2.8 diesels which would be cheap and fit well.
What about a Jackeroo/Rodeo 2.6 or diesel 4 cyl 3.0 litre.
These are all well proven reliable engines which are significant more powerful than a 2.25.
The other one (which there are adaptors for in UK) is a Diahatsu 2.8 turbo diesel. these are very popular in UK.

there was also that 4 litre Perkins motor with 5 speed gearbox and transfer for sale in Melbourne the other week.

8) thanks for the input guys ,now i have sooo many options,will take me ages to figure one out ,oh well ,ya cant rush these things in the bush as they say,will a series body fit on a rangie chassis,I know a strange question ,but if a slightly damaged rangie happened to cross my path with a good undercarriage ,but top half trashed , a transplant could be on the cards :roll:
