I must admit that I wondered if the LPG system caused the gasket burn through on mine.
yea, I'm wondering too,,
I think-- the LPG is a scapegoat though,,
so any of you Engineering types care to comment on whether 2thou will stuff a MLS head gasket?
like towing a van is a scapegoat as well..
2 thou?
are the liners flush with the block or do they protrude ?
i've read where mls gaskets blow because the block expands more than the liners and that lets the burn thru occur unless the liner protrudes a couple of thou
don't know enough to argue but i thought it an interesting proposition.
the liners protrude.
Lpg only causes problems if other things are problematic. Like my case with the dribbling petrol injector washing the bore while I'm running lpg. Cheers
LPG does cause problems with the copper HG's on series models, they fail within weeks.I've run LPG on my Holden 308,my D1 3.9,my 300 Tdi defender and 2.25 series three and only the series had HG problems.I'd fit the MLS gasket, drive around for 30mins and re-torque. Pat
I was talking d2's but 3.9 and 4.6 likewise.
Cheers
You could try o rings on the block face pete... im of tge opinion that a mls gasket is designed to crush the fire ring to a predetermined thickness, and if not achieving that over the entire face then the coolant passageways will most likely leak externally due to losing that .002" of extra clamping force...? The composite are more forgiving.
