maxi drive axles

Maxidrive lockers are no longer available.

The axles Still are, they are now made by a company called Hi Tough Engineering. The owner and operator of Hi Tough use to work for Maxidrive many years. He (Barry) took over the axle and drive flange Manufacturing when Mal story (the owner and main force behind MD) closed up shop.

The axles are still made the same way, still use the same materials and still use the same heat trearting.

you can use the Hi Tough axles with arb lockers which is a good set up.

IMO you wont need new Drive shafts. Unrelated to the axle/lockers, it never hurts to check the unis and over condition of the DS's.

i have maxi drive axles front and rear with front and rear ARB air lockers and no issues at all. Save the pennies and once the standard ones are cactus whack the maxi drive ones in

I have these Grover find them great.I will look at their axles when mine break.
Or hi tuff axles. They are about $800 i think but been a while since i enqiured

Go the diff lock first.
Maxie if you can get a 2nd hand one, next, ARB about $1200 new, not fitted.
then get the axle, when you have money, or brake one.
I did 2 rear diff centers (LR) (no axles), in 5 years,
before I went, 2nd hand, ARB lock, with MDE axles.:mad:

Have just fitted rear HTE axles in my 1997 300 tdi 130 and added 1ltr of extra oil. Could any body please tell me if if this is sufficient for lubrication of the wheel bearings

More than enough IMO.

I just put the Maxi dirive axles in the rear and drive flanges all round, took the oil seal out of the back.

Next project is to put front and rear ARB lockers in. Maxi Drive lockers are now not available and parts for their systems are getting hard to get.

I considered Mac's (Victoria) but when I rang I was not confident and in the long run will probably go the way of Maxi dirive. He no longer supports some of his previous systems???

ARB while hot as good ?? you can get parts very easily and looks like they will be their for the long run. Just my thoughts

Hi Scott, i fitted front and rear ARB lockers to my disco last year. Initially i was ready to go with Maxi drive before they closed down, but found out that in order to get the axles to run with the locker in the front i would need to spend another $1000 and upgrade to county CV's. I didnt want to do this so i went with the standard maxi drive axles (so not the ones that run with their locker) and front and rear ARB lockers. I havent looked back. After some fiddling and removing a couple of times to get them set right, and a stuff up on my behalf (we wont go there :angel:) everything is running great. They do tend leak a bit of gear oil at the solenoids on the compressor (this is a common issue im led to believe) but its neither here nor there compared to the other leaks :cool:. They work great. Would highly recommend this set up to anyone.
