Yes when towing i've got a combined weight of 2.5T.

Sure i dont expect the world of it to tow that much weight and when its moving its quite good really. Big hills are a pain though.

its more the sluggish off boost lack of power when starting in first gear.

It does yes, but i've tried this on many occasions and when i do, it feels like the TC is going to drop its gears.

The stock Td5 only has 300Nm of torque. You definitely want a remap and to upgrade the Intercooler. Get the torque above 400Nm and it will feel like it has just gained an extra gear. But you will need to sort the gearbox out before you put the extra torque through it. The R380 is rated at 380Nm but good for a bit more, so if you get the HD bearing upgrade at the same time I would have no hesitation dialling in 420Nm.

I would do remap from td5inside and an intercooler upgrade before a turbo upgrade as I am sure this will solve most of your issues and make your D2 much more drive-able.

I certainly agree.

I think i will do an intercooler upgrade first, modify the exhaust. Remap and then see how it drives before thinking about changing gear ratios.

I too found this problem when towing my 3.2t boat but was with an auto, I could imagine with a manual you would be riding that clutch for the first 100m off the line when towing up a hill. Get the remap, rip out that muffler, inter cooler makes a bit of difference but expensive and painful I would wind up the boost ( close the wastgate) clean all the sensors and check your maf.

If you find its still no good your down to the gearbox ratios.

Out of interest why the big NO to an auto i rate them highly for towing especially once it in torque lockup.

Yep, it requires clitch ridingto get off the line.

Yep ill do some power mods, intercooler upgrade for potential VNT turbo upgrade.

Autos are great for towing but they seem to be more proneto failure than the manual. Pricey to replace, expensive to service etc.

I just prefer manuals, my daily work van is auto and its great for drinking coffee and eating on the way to work, but all other vehicles i like to be manual.

Its just unfortunate take off is harder in a manual.
