I'm going to replace the viscous bearing this weekend with the john deere replacement part.
Just wanting to know if anyone can tell me what length to cut the shaft.
We have a bloke with a lathe ready to go at it.
Cheers,
Tony

The other 2% made it home.
Cost difference between Britpart and Genuine seals: £2.04. Knowing that your brakes won't fail at any moment: Priceless.

Or buy a Ford unit. Pat
we already have the bearings here to do 2 covers...at $35each,
aware that you can buy the ready machined bearings for a price, but honestly I wouldnt pay $90-120 EACH if we have the means to the job for $35 each
We can figure out the shaft length I guess on the day...but it would have been handy to have them ready to just do all the press work on the weekend is all ...
cheers

SupporterMeasuring two old units from D1 Tdi300. Overall length 73mm. Bearing length approx 47.
You transferring the drive flange from old to new? Be aware flanges can break lobes: seems to be of poor quality casting.
I bought my replacement units from MR Auto, which came with custom flanges machined from steel.
With an appropriate socket at the back of the bearing and careful use of a hammer, casing held in left arm, was able to drive the bearing out.
New bearing spent time in the freezer while the casing warmed in the sunlight. Down on the concrete floor, support directly under the bearing housing and not the edges of the casing, drove the new one in with a few hammer taps. In order:- concrete floor, steel pipe length of which is more than the depth of the casing, small piece of flat steel, then casing. The flat steel stops the bearing going further into the casing than it should.
