That sounds like a very likely cause as it certainly does feel like something sticking and as the problem is intermitent this could easily account for it........i'll be sure to mention it to the mechanic.

I know its frustrating but dont give up so easily, you will kick yourself if you sell it, especially as it isnt that huge a problem, its not like its a lemon.

My plan of attack would be to take it back to who put the remapped chip in and get them to return it to normal thus eliminating the posibility of it causing some issues, then go to a LR expert like M+R Autos that have plenty of experience and see what they can find.

It really cant be to much, and you would be better off persevering with it, and use it too get to know more about it mechanically so you will have a better understanding in the future. :wink:

And dont think that this sort of issue doesnt happen to other makes and is a Landrover only problem, I could tell you a tale or two about my BA Falcon company hack 8O

Er diesels do not have a throttle body.
But the posting before was about a ecu signal coming from a switch on the clutch pedal which cut off fuel on gear changes causing a flat spot on gear shift.
This sounds like your problem but in the opposite direction.

I am VERY reluctant to sell it but I tell you, it has been driving me mad for some weeks now. I am still confident that the guy looking into it knows what he is doing (he also put in the ECU), but if he can't rectify it after this attempt, then i'll look at getting someone else to look at it.

Where are M+R Autos? Being failry new to Land Rovers and 4x4 and having been bitten badly by the modifications bug, a list of good LR mechanics and modifiers near by would make me very happy. Yellow pages only tells you so much but as most would agree, someone who knows LR's is my preference.

Really appreciate all the input and will hopefully be back driving with a LR smile in no time. Has also meant I have put a halt to any new mods until this is fixed - no point spending $ doing stuff if it doesn't drive like it should.

M+R Auto's is in Redcliffe, a bit of a hike for you but maybe a call to talk to Warren first wouldnt go astray, you'l find them in the preffered suppliers section.

Could be the fly by wire accelerator playing up. I thought modern efi common rail diesels had a t/body? How is air regulated then ?
I would return it to who ever fitted the remapped ecu and demand to either fit the standard one back or fix it .

AFAIK they have a MAF but no throttle . Regulation is like any diesel . The duration, volume injected by the injectors which is controlled by the pump or by the ECU on a common rail. ( or like the latest BMW petrol engines)
Lean =idle, rich = power, plus black smoke, Koff Koff.
That is a major reason diesels are more economical, no pumping losses trying to pull air through a closed throttle.

If anyone is interested, I think my problem has been solved by the mechanics. Turns out it was an EGR filter that had mud stuck in it and therefore hindered airflow. EGR filter has been replaced and it all seems fine again - until the next mud bog I go through probably!!!
