How long have you had the Bruce Davis remapped ECU?
That would be the first thing to check .. if possible go back to standard ecu, drive it for a while and see if that makes a difference.
VEHICLE TECHNICAL DETAILS
- 1999 Series 2 manual TD5 Discovery
- 117500 Klms
- Fitted with Bruce Davis Remapped ECU
- Apparently showing zero faults when plugged into computer
PROBLEM
Engine is continuing to rev up slightly when changing up gears and is generally a bit rough on the gear changes with a lot of lurching when I come off accelerator and on then back on. The whole car does not seem to be running as smooth as it sometime does.
This is an intermitent problem and only seems to happen occasionaly. Of course it never happens when I take it to the garage (Garage who services only Land Rover). Has been to the garage for this problem 3 times now. Last time it came out nice and smooth again and I thought this was it sorted but, unfortunately it has re-appeared.
Not very technically minded myself and am reaching the stage where I just want to get rid of it and buy something else as it requires so much concentration to try and make it drive smooth!!! Would really like ANY input at all as the last thing I want to do is sell it but, it's getting that annoying. If anyone has any ideas or thoughts I would really like to hear from you.
Cheers, Mick

do you have a speedo correction unit fitted???
if so they can play with the electrics if not fitted correctly
Thanks for responding Greylandy
Had the ECU fitted February this year and to begin with, no problems. It's really only been in the last few months that it has been a bit rough. As I don't have a standard ECU to try, I am having to rely on Rick of Rick's 4X4 Gold Coast to figure it out - very good crowd there by the way and Rick has gone out of his way to try and recify this problem. Anyway it is going back in there this week for another attempt to fix it but the general feeling is, if it is imtermitent, then it shouldn't be the ECU.
It's made more frustrating by the fact that I have zero mechanical experience so really have to rely on others to find and fix any problems.
Cheers for the input though and hopefully someone might shed some light on this annoying anomoly soon!!
Mick
May be worth having a Talk to someone in Brisbane like Warren and the boys at M.R. Automotive or Shane at Technobritsh.

Someone did have a surging problem with a Defender, but mine is a problem whem changing gear only and drives fine when cruising. I did try and get some info from that thread at the same time but to no avail.
Once it comes out of the garage this weekend, if it's not fixed i'm selling it. So if anyone out there knows what they're doing, then they might be able to pick up a well kitted out Disco for a good price come Monday morning....i'll keep the forum posted.
Cheers
Sounds like sticking in the throttle body, so when u clutch in and de throttle, throttle butterfly thingy is not releasing, causing revs to increase. I'm sure workshop would have picked this up, but worth a look.
