8O Tappets too tight ? I'll remember that one for next time... different engine but HS's 186 if they are tight I can hear it misfiring out the exhausts (revs stumble), can screw the rockers down until the motor stalls and still won't tap. Not disputing anything just find it interesting the difference.
I'll note for the solex carby for the 2¼motor from the workshop manual
Main jet 125
Correction Jet 185
Maybe that helps with a starting point since the carby guy suggested 127.

hmmm.
I got anO2 sensor today. I went to Pick-A-Part (famous in Melb) and grabbed an O2 sensor and some relays. They wanted $32 for the sensor & $8ea for the relays :!:
So I left them there and they ended up in the bin - go figure.
I picked up a sensor down the road at another wrecker for $10 - what I expected to pay.
Jaycar do an electronic analyzer that plugs into an O2 sensor and gives mixture readings (LED display) for $15. I think getting that installed will allow for optimal tuning.
I found some tuning tips on the following website : http://www.racetep.com/webjettune.html
The more advice I get the better, so don't hesitate to throw advice this way. And thanks for all the suggestions so far.

I got an O2 sensor nut fitted to the collector on my extractors. Performance Exhaust in Ringwood charged $30 for supply and fit and the job was done in 10min.
I bought a fuel mixture display kit from Jaycar for $15 and hope to assemble this tonight. Hopefully I'll be able to hook it up and see it work tomorrow.
