Not sure about alloy, but I know stainless can be welded with a stick welder, its what i'll be doing mine with.

I recently purchased a Camec plastic water tank to install under my dormobile, but it's too big to fit where I intended it to go, measure twice fit once ...
I'm about to put it in markets if anybody wants it.

On another note this chap makes them to measure, seems quite helpful and not too expensive

The tank measures 750 x 350 x 220 and has three inlet fittings, it can be used in two positions.

If you do use a plastic water tank, it is worthwhle fitting a sheet metal support panel underneath. Particularly important if there is any chance or rocks or stakes hitting the tank.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Make a little box first so you can check that the welds aren't porous. I have heard of mild steel fuel tanks being made with a stick welder, but the fella who told me about it had had a lot of trouble with the welds being porous and he'd had to grind them out and redo them. I think that at the time he was living out bush and didn't have much choice. Later he used a MIG with gas and that worked well, (and then much later he taught me how).

I'd stick-weld a water tank if I could get it to work.
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.
