Rear light pole - spare wheel setup.

Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet

Wanted to show off my rear light setup and hopefully inspire someone. Used the square alu tubing from bunnings and some small steel brackets to support. Cost about $10 in total. I extended spare wheel bolts and popped the bar on there. Lights are cheapies from ebay ($30).

Is that one of the universal roof racks from 4wd supacentre? I really want a new rack that sits close to the roof and that looks modifiable to do it.

I've had this on the "to do" list for a while. Can you list a few more details about wiring and switching. Also Is the Alu tube welded to form the T shape?

Would appreciate a pic of the mounting to the spare wheel carrier as well.

    Cheers.

Zoomed in and saw the angled brackets holding the top bar.

Yeah Steve it is - although to keep it close to the roof you would need different gutter legs. This rack is very tall - but it is definitely growing on me. I am working on a little light bar between factory roof rails to try and fill the gap between roof and rack and make the whole thing a little more easy on the eye.

Turbopsi - you are correct there are little steel brackets bolted on. I only needed three bolts for the top, which is good. I drilled some holes corresponding to the spare wheel bolt holes and bought some longer bolts from bunnings and just put the light pole between the bolt and the spare wheel carrier. It is extremely secure. I cut a hole in the back of the light pole and fed the wires down through the tube and then through the windscreen wiper rubber grommet in the back door. Grounded wires on some of the bolts on the inside of the rear door. From there, power wire through the cabin and up the driver's side A pillar and across the headliner - where the sunroof switch panel is, I mounted one of those ARB style switches. Then back across headliner, down A pillar and out into engine bay through firewall. Installed an in-line fuse in the back door, also.

I will take some pics to go with this explanation.

Looks great. May have to copy it myself now. . .
How well do those eBay lights work? Seems like a pretty sweet price.

I don't know about up north there, but in NSW it is illegal to have a white light showing to the rear that is switchable from the cabin/drivers seat.
In NSW switch must be at the back with the light, this is to stop drivers switching on rear facing light while driving, Regards Frank.
