Have a look for grease nipples on the shaft bet you there are none on the hookes joint end.Lack of lubrication is likely to be a factor. Was it the hookes joint that failed. I have changed one on a customers car here in NZ and his vehicle is bog standard
Have you spoken to the company that did the lift for you???
Also, I'd make sure that you get a WRITTEN letter stating why they would not accept the warrenty claim, show that to the company that did the lift, and if they too refuse, get a WRITTEN letter from them explaining why. Once you have both of the letters, you can post them on every bloody forum in Australia, as well as forward copies to every four wheel driving magazine, TV companies etc.
Another words the idea is to raise more hell than a turd in a wedding punch bowl!
Cheers
Chris
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>The Hookes joint is lubricated during manufacture and sealed for life.[/b][/quote]
and that folks, is straight out of the RAVE CD.
Yep, sealed for life, which in a lot of cases isn't all that many km.
Really makes you wonder when they can put a grease nipple on the front uni......
And the excuse that there isn't any room inside the joint to get a grease gun on a nipple doesn't wash, when uni's have been manufactured in the past with the nipple on a cap, which incidentally makes an inherently stronger universal joint anyway.
That Double cardin joint picture that I posted is my replacement one for the D2. I've had 2 "sealed for life" DC's fail now in about 60(ish),000km. Notice the one I had done has 2 grease nipples.
My appologies for that Slunnie. I thought that Rosco posted the pic of the Cardin / Hookes joint.
Just can't quite make out any grease nipples clearly. Are they on the RH side either side of the "bridge section pictured? Looks like something is there.
Cheers,
Trev.
Slunnie, very many $$ ??
and did Hardy Spicer at Morebank build it for you ?
Don't worry Disconut, to be honest I didn't notice the name thing. 8O
The grease nipples fitted to it are covered in a lithium grease in the photo and then sprayed black from when the tailshaft was painted. I hadn't cleared them off at that stage. They're on the RHS of the pic top and bottom of the bridge, and have a long stem so that the grease gun can get onto it. It isn't unfortunately one of the ones that has the grease nipples on the end of each bearing for strength, though never the less it is greasable.
Rick, I had it done at Metropolitan driveshafts I think they're called on James Ruse Drive Granville, and I'll have to find the receipt for the cost. I think it was about $550 or similar to have the 3 unis rebuilt onto the factory tailshaft. I've not used SPicers at Moorebank, but no doubt they will be cheaper and do the same job. I'm happy with the work of Metropolitan Driveshafts though and it was all same day turnaround, which was important also to me at the time.
$550 inc GST to replace 3 universal joints and rebalance.Quote:
