Ooooooooh I hope I haven't made a huge mistake!
This is my first LR ('01 disco Td5) and so far so good!
Am I just going to start dreaming of the problems I'm reading here? Please tell me that these are 'isolated' incidents.
I've had Nissans and Tojo's and they too have their probs but not like this, and certainly not with the manufacturers' disdain!
Reassure me guys, before I spend more on what I have rather than trading back to the Japs
Best we all go and buy a SIIa Landy and never worry about "warrentee"
Sadly if it was all kept simple in its build and design then we might not have problems.
I feel for you guys and i hope it all works out for the best.

The next car I buy will be a Land Rover but it won't be bought new from LRA.
Matt, pursue it further, and send a link to this discussion thread to Steve Morton's Ford Based Manager. Let him know how this culture of arrogance is doing actual financial damage to the company.
I've just been on the ACCC website as my brand new Dishwasher is DOA.
Not there is a section on there site about Warrantee.
Download the PDF and go into LR and pass them the document. Then Demand to talk to the manger of the LR dealer and explain you are in the right and if LR does not come to some financial aid you will be pursuing the matter with the ACCC and other partys.
In your case i would not roll over. If it was $1000 damage maybe, but it sounds like a tad more.
If the Double cardin broke then that is there problem. As double Cardins are designed to counter act an "Engineering Fault" IE the problem was not there in D1's and D2's have it.

a year back i had a "Hi undie's" Getz as a work car..... jokes aside
after 10,000km the clutch let go. was it abuse? Nope. but the center ripped out and when it let go it broke the input shaft and caused the box to have a malfunction big time......
So big that the gearbox was laying in the middle of Sturt St ballarat.
How did this happen know one knows, but they would not fix it.
After it sat in their workshop for 3 weeks and the company i worked for refused to pay for it, Hyundai gave up and fixed it. But they only fixed it after we took in the 2nd car to have the slipping clutch fixed. Guess what. Clutch plate has cracked and was ready to let go......
Was it my handbrake turns while holding it flat in 2nd that caused it?
Was it race/slam changing that caused it??
Dont know. But both were totally rooted by 20,000km. then mine got broken into and trashed in Boronia one night.
So it died a horrible death...
My thoughts are if you have not already fixed it, take it into LR and have them inspect the damage and ask them for an engineer's report on why it broke. Or organise yourself the engineer to inspect it.
Then take them to court
The Media and all the 4WD magazines will love to hear how LR wont support their customers

You might not want to contact the media as you seem to feel some guilt that it could have been your fault. Rubbish, you lifted it to correct the 50mm sagging the front had.
Be honest, Were any of the modifications illegal? if so then you wont win.
But hell if some are revert it and then still take it back.
Drop it on their doorstep and refuse to pick it up until it is repaired. Take the local press and the VACC with you.

This really urks me.
wtf don't these companies realise that customer experience & word-of-mouth is 90% of their image? Bad image = less sales.
This is especially so with LR considering their (lack of) marketing and their (lack of) support in remote areas - 90% of Australia.
On the contrary I hear people talking in the UK saying how great the support is & always has been *sigh*
Why can't they give LRA ownership / control to a mob that actually likes LR's? :roll:
Mr walker, what is the update, this one has got me fascinated. With all the suggestions i imagine now you would be on first name terms with the head man at Ford in the US.
Regardless of whether LRA is an an importer they are still selling the vehicle and the statutory warranty that comes with it.
Does anyone know the the email address, contact details of the head person for L/R/Ford, perhaps we could all bomb them with emails outing LRA and their lack of after sale warranty.

Ok, I did end up caving in, I just could not take it anymore. I think the best way for me to get back at them is to never buy their product new again and prsuade as many mates to do the same.
I also did not continue with it because Range Rov stepped in and offered me a fantastic deal to get it all fixed up. Finally I am hoping to pick it up tomorrow.
They were able to weld up the crack (after all the crap the dealer said about a huge crack and that it can never be repaired). They were able to weld and repair the exhaust as the cats ere never touched.(the dealer wanted to replace they whole section even if I was paying for it which was $4500 new or $800 second hand) and a new propshaft.

Now next question..... are you dropping it back down to std height or making a front tailshaft loop??
And have you seen modified front shock towers and rear shock mounts to lower the shocks to keep std size shocks on a lifted rig??

I will probably lower it a bit. I now have the Rangie so the Disco is just for touring so it does not need to be as hardcore as it was.
Range rove are pulling out both the lockers today. 1 is going into the fron of the Rangie the other is sold. The simex's for the Disco are gone and so will the 32" MTR's (will soon be 4 sale!!! [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif[/img] ) and will go back to 245/75-16. and the winch is going over to the Rangie.
I have not seen lower shock towers. I always want to go the other way with taller shock towers so I can have longer shocks
