Mad or what

Ok
After having a think and look at finance, we have decided to hire a trailer with all the camping kit and drive the misses 90 around Aus. Instead of buying a newer Disco
A couple of reason for this.
The truck all ready has , snorkle, QT diff guards, Steering guard, rear draw system, spots , tow bar, off road tyres, twin optima yellow tops , and is pretty much ready to go.
The other is i know the workings of the whole truck and it has not got electrics (unlike the TD5 Disco)
But it does lack space hence the trailer.

Am i mad to do this or will it work. :?:

Sounds like the smart thing to do. If you get stuck at anytime 8O , you can drop the trailer, recovery the 90 then recover the trailer.

Works for me

Can't see why not, even though we have a TD5 Disco we still don't put alot of gear in the back, most of our stuff goes in the trailer, we only have travelling food and a fridge, you know munchies while driving and a drink.

I reckon it is probably cheaper to buy a camper trailer and resell it later. The new off road camper trailer market is cut throat, everyone with a welder and a shed is making them. Spend the money you were going to spend on a Disco and then sell the trailer later and loose maybe $1500 if that. A mate of mine living in Cumbria took a jag back to the uk and has a contact for cheap freight of a car back here. Col can help you out with the contact I reckon. I think it cost him about $1500 to get the S type to the UK from Brisbane couple of years back now. Only other thing you need is Dwaune's phone number at M.R. automotive in Brisbane and he will get you parts any where in OZ if you break down, even if he has to find a road train that's going your way to drop them off.

From what I understand yes you can get aircon fitted after-the-fact (so to speak). I am looking at getting the same for my 300Tdi Defender, as it's a pre-requisite for the missus to come with me when we go up north a bit more.

However it is expensive. I've only really looked at prices in the UK as I haven't found web details from companies here in Australia (and I'm not in Australia to chase it up  ), however the prices I've seen are around £1400 for an aircon kit....

the L/R Oz fitted air con is an AMC (Aussie) system anyway.
Thats why it hangs below the dash and takes up all your bloody footwell space in the passenger side......

air con - WTF.
enjoy the experiance,
fit the bikini soft top,
swap your doors for series 111 ones, sans the tops.
buy a blue singlet top to wear. (and a pink one for the missus)
if it gets too hot, try drinking COLD beer. (its really very good)

just like a pom - come over here to get away from the cold and then whinge about the heat.
