    Cargo Barriers

    Hi Guys
One of my first DIY projects for the Disco will be a cargo barrier.
What are the commercial ones like? Do they cover the gap above the seats only or do they go to floor level. Are they easily removed incase you need to carry bulky items with the seats down.
What I have in mind is a strong fixed frame which could also help as an internal rollbar,
with 2 easily removeable sections upper and lower.
Anything like this on the market already???? If so who makes them so I could have a look and cheat. 8) 8) 8) How about the upper section in heavy perspex??? Would increase the aircon effeciency in the cab somewhat.
All input appreciated, pics of other DIY or bought barriers would be good.

The classic barrier comes from Milford:

    Hi Andy,

I just put a Milford in mine 2 weeks ago, after you have all the mounts in place you can install and remove in 5 minates, its as milford ususal, very solid, good fit and doesn't rattle. You can have 2 positions, 1 with seats folded down (full area) and 1 with seats up. I installed only for the rear position as I have tin lids to carry around so wouldn't use the front position.
Makes an excelent roll bar protector for your most precious cargo in the back seat

Pics of my install are here

    Hi Glen
Once had a near miss in a falcoon wagon, our 4 golden retrievers ended up in the backseat/console area.I made a barrier from that security door mesh the next day.The barriers should be compulsory,un-secured luggage is lethal.
How much did your Milford barrier cost?????

    Hi Baz,

I got the timer for $190, and installed myself in about 30-45 mins one night, very easy 3 wires and thats was it.

The wires for the radio run across the roof linning (between roof shell and inner linning) and then down the A pillar and behind the dash, I was lucky that when I pulled the roof panel off between the visors it already had the cables run up from the dash, obviously the previous owner had a radio up there and left the wires behind, he must have replaced the plastic panels though as they were unmarked 8O

Because Milford have the maket cornered :x , although that is changing, there is not much movement on pricing, the best I could negotiate was $420, although in honesty the safety factor that they provide is worth 100 times that

My first temporary addition in my first defender was a guard made from two old security doors, it looked crap but stopped anything coming over the seats or through the rear seats in a defender that have no solid back in them like a disco 8O

    Thanks Glen
At $400,Im looking at building one I think, unless I find a cheapie in the quokka or wreckers.Pretty confident that I can make something strong enough and good looking,Ive got most of the workshop equipment needed except for a bender.
    Another DIY project will be a roofrack and drawer system(my bro is a cabinet maker)8) 8) 8) 8) .

Milfords are the go they are what the Oz standard is based on, which most others don't meet. Milford will hold the roof up.
