    vibration on series 1 discovery

does anyone have any experience of a vibration on the ser1 disco. it seems like a wheel balance problem in that it is worst at approx 80-100kph, but it has a whiring noise with it that suggests a wheel bearing. i have done the obvious in jacking the car up and feeling for slack in the wheel bearings but they all seem fine. to make it more confusing the car at very low speeds drives like it have warped discs, in that it judders and wanders. but this isn't the case at normal speeds. does anyone have any ideas? or should i stop being tight and get it looked at?

Could be a number of things like UJ or Balance and even wheel alignment

I would start with a wheel alignment and balance and when they put it up on the hoist have a gander and see if anything looks out of place and get them to have a look also ( tell them what is happening )

Also go to a good place and not the cheapest

yeh it started after going off road, nothing that should have damaged anything though. certainly my old pajero never got any problems similar after much rougher treatment. the car is going in for gas soon so after that i will start getting it looked at, balance alignment etc.

I did exactly that the first time I took our Disco off playing. Even the lightest nudge on a stocker is enough to bend it slightly, and you only need a change of a mm to change alignment. Worth checking!

with regards to wheel balance problem....make sure your rims arent full of mud.....

and just have a quick check of your uni joints on the tailshafts...a safety check....if these fail it can be very serious and dangerous.....

    then get back to us....

    Hi guys
nobody has suggested to check the tyres 4 separation of the tread , some times hard to pick. it's worth a look.

I had a similar vibration problem that turned out to be a tie rod end, so as someone siad start with the balance and alignment, - stay away from bob janes, and ask them if you can have a look at the vehicle while they have the wheels off, its easier to see the CV joints / front shockers then
