In the end, we took his D2 to a body shop in Glen Iris who specialised in doing this work(for ULR back in the day), and he fabbed up the bracketing, much more substantial than the image you posted. Leo and myself just stripped and rebuilt it, in his shop, guru did the bracketing/welding. Considering that he didn't have the parts in stock either(and he had quite a lot of old D2 bits out the back too) .. I'd say supply of the bracketing would be all done and dusted.
Out of curiosity, I checked my D2s(I have two others in addition to the TD5). One spares shell, this had been done at some point, and the other one is the 'future project'(has been for a long time too) .. but it hasn't been done. Both have near on 200K klms on them, and the hulk is a '99, and the project is a '00 .. so very close in age. Weird at how random the issue seems to have been. I checked the TD5 too('02-03 model) ... and it's fine.
I know that panel shop.
That bracket I posted was the Land Rover designed fix for the crack. I guess when they did it the cracks were not 23 years and 340,000 km old....
