    D1 converter lockup

Is there a way of manually controlling the torque converter lockup on TDI300 autos. I tow a builders trailer (approx 1T) and (both) my Disco's seem to like to change up into 4th and lock the converter up at the same time (around 75kph). This means it drops from 3000+ revs down to under 2 and if hauling up an incline, it drops right off the power resulting in having to boot it again to kick it back down to 3rd.

If there was a way of holding in 4th without locking the converter or even have the converter lock up in 3rd, it would make it a lot more user friendly.

    TIA

It can be modded to lockup in 3rd and from memory requires valve body modifications.

I would move the gear stick into 3rd.(Top gear) when it starts to labour up a hill and keep the revs above 2000rpm, it will stay there till you change up, Regards Frank.

Being in 3rd (without lockup) limits your road speed without ringing it's neck. 4th (top gear ) without LU seems to work quite well in my situation. The issue is keeping it there because as soon as you even look like lifting off, the TC locks and you are back to square one.

I drive, on and off road using my Auto as a manual box and off road I keep it in Top gear (3rd) H range Diff Lock and only change into 4th. gear (overdrive) when on the flat or downhill.
I used to let the box do all the work, but was having overheating problems with the Auto, fitted a bigger cooler, same problem.
Since driving as described above Tranny stays cool.
On road I never let the revs drop below 2000 rpm in O/D, I just drop it back a gear and let it work, Regards Frank.
