It should be in the handbook - it is for the 3.9 vs 300TDI.

Yeah, ta but I have the 3.9 and was thinking the 4.0 would be more economical

Teah they do have a better injection system but a D2 is bigger and heavier so probably makes no differance

I've just purchased a 2000 TD5 2.5lt 7 seater and by the looks of things i'm getting about 10-11lt/100km which for a heavy beast i think its pretty good.

The reason for the query is that I'd like a Td5 but the V8's are about $5,000-$6,000 cheaper for a comparable vehicle (often) with less km's and I'm wondering if the running/servicing v economy benefits would justify the extra $ for the Td5. (and how long to recoup those $). Can anyone enlighten me as to the running costs of a Td5?

While we're at it, anyone want to take a punt at how much fuel will cost Christmas 2006? Will it continue to go up? If it continues rising, then you'll want the td5. Also, you probably won't be able to sell a petrol disco 8O

    I'm doing 11.4 in my 130 defender.
That gas injection system claims a 20% improvement in economy. They are estimating I would get 8-9l/100km but thats $3300. They think about 120,000ks to break even but if prices keep going up you will wan't diesel and maybe things like this.

The V8 on gas would give you the best of both worlds, if you can aford the space.
