I'm also attempting to make my car as legal as possible, so does anyone know if a GPS unit will pass the necessary roadworthy regulations for Qld? GPS is a tempting option if it does satisfies all Qld road regulations as it is also a good excuse to buy another gadget for the beast!! Means I wont get lost and will know what speed I am doing!!

You could be right DEFENDERZOOK, i'm new to Qld so anybody who knows what the go is with driving a legal car in Qld would be helpful. Also for may insurance to pay out if I make a claim, my policy states that the car must be road worthy - now would a speedo reading a false reading be classed as road worthy in Qld, that is what I need to find out? Can I just take my car to Qld transport for an inspection and have it signed off by an inspector?

Surely a speedo reading incorrectly is definite grounds to not pay an insurance claim 8O . Very happy if it makes no difference but would like to know I am driving a legally road worthy car :wink:

Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but I understand the ADRs require a speedo to be accurate to within 10% - so if yours reads 88 when you are doing 80 I would say that while not desirable - you are just legal. I think state requirements are that you just have a working speedo (not GPS at the moment) that meets ADR requirements.

Some legal people believe that ADR rule is the basis for a valid test in the courts where a person has been booked for going over the speed limit but less than 10% - particularly when it can be shown the speedo under reads - if the cars speedo is allowed to be 10% out - how can you be booked - I don't believed it has actually been tested in court yet - the states say that irrespective of the ADRs - it is the drivers responsibility to ensure the speedo is accurate.

Makes sense Gazzz. I don't want to be as borderline on the limit allowed though and would rather have as near accurate reading as possible. Wouldn't fancy trying to argue the 10% theory in court either.
