Ian,I'd go through all the hoses and pipes and change them all,turbo,intercooler,charcoal canister and it's hoses and the injector spill lines,all of them are cheap from the UK except the spill lines and boost compensator line,buy a meter of both from your local diesel shop and cut to length,they rub through against the head and worse the acoustic cover and the compensator rubs through everywhere.The key to reliability is to look for rub points,you'll see polished area's especially were hoses etc pass over/under/around other parts,while your doing the charcoal canister I'd do a valve set and check the lash caps,your got to take the cover off anyway so I'd do it while your there,this sounds like lots of work and expense but it's simple stuff and Tdi parts from the UK are as cheap as car parts can be.
