Hi all, as many of you who frequent all the forums will know I had problems with my Lift pump leaking again, yes, as a reulst of the line from the lift pump to the fuel filter being to short. If you own a 300TDi engined vehicle (not sure if the problem is the same on Defenders and 200TDi Discovery's) take the line off (be careful not to loose the two brass washers at the fuel filter end when you take them off), go to pirtek or somewhere similar, get a piece of line 5-6mm in diameter (internal diameter) and about 4inch longer than the one on the vehicle, two hose clamps to suit and go home. Cut the existing plastic line of the two end fittings and fit them to the new piece of rubber hose, clamp them on and refit the line. Not only will this save you the possibility of springing a leak like it did to me last october (when i should have replaced this line) it will save you the cost of about $100 for a new lift pump.

Now actually go and do it, a lift pump will only last about 10months before it starts to leak. Matt

Ace are you sure your engine mounts or something has'nt dropped or the pipe previously shortened?
The pipe on mine is any amount long enough, I can understand what you mean but there is no way its going to pull on the lift pump the way its designed.

Matt,
I'm concerned that without some sort of Flaring on the ends of the exsisting pipe which has been cut ,the new addition will eventually slide off from the consistant vibration of the engine no matter the tightness of the hose clamps.
I am getting a quote today from PIRTEK on a reinforced flexible replacement I will keep you informed.. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif[/img]

The correct LR replacement part is # WJP108350.
I won't tell you the LR dealer price, but it might pay to check the other LR parts "agent/dealers".
The LR part has a coil in the line to absorb the vibration.

Were is the lift pump? I have a 300tdi defender and changed the fuel filter the other weekend, before I started I thought I'd better locate the lift pump prior to removing the fuel filter so that I could fill the fuel filter before starting. An aftermarket 'fleet guard' filter has been fitted by the previous owner. After having a bit of a look I could not find, ended up not needing it as the fuel filter bled and filled itself when I started the motor. I looked in the owners manual and it made no reference.

The lift pump can be traced by following the right hand pipe from the fuel filter/sedementer. has a small priming lever on it .

Went to PIRTEK today and got a flexible line made and fitted for $24.50 would advise other Perth 300TDi owners to go to PIRTEK O'connor.

I used straight fuel line, i will keep an eye on it vibration wise, but i used smaller line, was only 5mm, so i had to really push to get it on the fitting i doubt it will move, but will keep an eye the hose.

Sheff, someone may have already done it on yours, you have gotten off lightly. Matt

Matt if any one modified the inlet pipe to the lift pump on mine it had to be Mr. Landrover himself cos I bought it new!!
The pipe (as I indicated) seems quite adequately long as it has a sort of kink about half way along which by looking would allow at least 40mm of down movement before it stressed anything.
Then again, mine has done 150k. without missing a beat. I did have a coolant leak which was concerning, but tightening all the hose clips fixed that. (dont know which one was the culprit though!)
Neither does it use or drip any oil, which seems a bit of mystery too! (mind you, my older 76 s111 2.25d. makes up for that)

Not sure what the go it then, the line i removed was the OE, it was identical to all the other lines. Stuffs me, from what people have been telling me, it is a common problem on all 300TDi engined Disco's, i cant be certain on defenders, the engine bay is different. My old line didnt have a kink in it, it was so short it took me 10 minutes to get the thread to take it was that short. Oh, well its sorted now. Matt
