Mine works within a range of 9 to 11 l per 100kms "up hill and down dale". Low range or High onroad or off. A V8 would probably vary much more. It's the torque talking.

    The variables seem to be:

Head wind or tail wind at highway speeds

    Stuff on the roof rack

    Tyre pressures

    Towing.

I guess that that indicates the amount of load and work the motor has to do to carry it.

Mind you there is a sweet spot just above 3000 rpm and she flies but getting to the sweet spot is slow

    RPM?

I'm interested in your RPM Langy. Sounds like yours revs harder than mine at highway speed. Mine, with the 31's, does about 2000 at 90, about 2250 at 100 and about 2500 at 110. Is this a difference between the auto and the manual... :?: Sounds a lot. My speedo is pretty accurate....tacho?

    Thanks for the input all.
I must put a few pics in my gallery folder.

    cheers

    Revs

    My apologies Lindsay:

Typo error , same rpm as yours - I can live with what the Tdi drinks, and if I get a spare $400, I'll import some new injectors. Otherwise some injector cleaner every odd tank, letting it warm up for a few minutes, tight clamps on turbo pipes and cleaning the intercooler when I change the oil helps keep things in check. I didn't believe it, but LRH (Guy with the Tdi RR) was right when he cleaned his with acetone. I got another 50k in fuel economy when I did mine.

    intercooler

I recently cleaned my intercooler with kero and then soapy water. Havent put a tank through it yet to check any change in fuel consumption. Are you saying acetone will do a better job?

    cheers

My old man's 97 TDI 5 speed Disco gets around 8-9 normal driving and goes up to a max of 13 towing his 5.2 metre Coromal Seka poptop. On the same run Brisbane to Dubbo then across to the coast to Coffs and to yamba my 3.9 5 speed averaged up to 18 towing a Jayco Swan camper.
