re cleaning alum parts
just soak them in petrol / solvant for a while and scrub to remove all you can buy hand, them stick them in the dishwasher (yes that's right the dishwasher) with the normal dishwasher soap / tablets
they'll come out like new, maybe not so good for the dishwasher? (and the wife'll hate it  ) but good for the parts
where do you think the ad on TV came from? it's been done for ages and really works

I've used Woollies supermarket 'Home cleaner' it works a treat getting stuff off. It was safe on aluminium. But always check labels of any product you use to ensure they are asafe on aluminium

Best thing to do is not put them in the dishwasher if they are aluminium. Alkaline salts - dishwasher powder - go straight for aluminium.

I'm a big fan of the dishwasher all-purpose cleaner, but you're not going to be happy with a pitted head.

Cheers

Simon.
