    Reversing

Any advise on a good reversing camera for my D2. I know nothing much about them really. I just want one that works well and can handle the elements. Any advise would be very much appreciated. Also my headlining needs doing badly. Was thinking of an overhead console at the same time. Once again any advise would be great. I live in the Dandenong area. Cheers.

Run your cabling for the camera when you are fixing the head lining and have it so you can turn your camera on independent of being in reverse gear. That way you don't lose your vision if you have to select forward and have another bite when connecting a trailer.

Mike, I bought a $50 ebay special mounted the monitor where the sun roof switches would go on the overhead panel.
I used velcro strips to hold it there, so I can remove it without any damage to the console.
I made up a small bracket out of flat Alloy bar and pop riveted it in the centre of top of rear doorway opening., and the camera sits in that flat bar neatly and discretely.
The wiring runs under the rubber weatherstrip, and is fed into the rear 1/4 , you be able to hide the entry point of the cable into the 1/4 panel inside with the interior trim panels then along the roof line under the fabric.
I've had if for about 2 years now and not effected by rain or weather.
Works great at night in low light.
    Cheers, Mario

If you have considered a dash cam or GPS in any way, given the somewhat limited room in a D2 dash, consider amalgamating as much as possible. eg, Hema can double as a reversing camera screen. Must admit haven't seen any dash cams that also do maps etc.

Too bad the D2 didn't have a double DIN. I hate add on clutter all over dashboards, Better if it looks O.E.
No much on offer these days with flip outs either, seem to be unpopular???

I have a single DIN media system flipout which is also my reversing camera, but its not that good an idea leaving it out in the rough, so would be not so good for GPS in that scenario.

Plus, because I wanted to keep my rear camera out of the dust, I'm limited to what I can see rearwards through the rear windscreen eg cant see my towbar for hitch-up, so also have a simple convex reversing mirror attached to the outside of the rear door.

I don't have a reversing system with distance bars, but driving other cars find that quite helpful for measuring in a fisheye situation.

The thing I drive is 26 metres long, and I just use the mirrors.

    just funning. True though.

As someone else on this forum has said: "Keeping it simple is difficult"!
But, Johntins, you are so-o-o-o right.
