Fuel Injectors / brake pads 300 TDI

Just a couple of questions relating to the fuel injectors fitted to the 300 TDI and brake pads.

    1) At what stage should the injectors be overhauled (current Km's 120,000)
    2) Is it possible to get service exchange units or are they throw away?

    Brake pads.

Are there any suitable softer after market pads available, that won't machine away the rotors. My rear rotors are near machined away and I want to have them fixed up and a set of new pads fitted.

    Thanks,

    Shifter.

The injectors are not servicable I have some mates with cars well over 200k with no issues. As for pads I've been using Bendix Kevlar Matrix 4x4 and they seem ok Ive done about 40k on the set in my car. Rotors are cheap.

I'm inclined to agree that injectors should be left alone unless there's obviously something wrong with them. The Tdi's two-stage injectors are extremely finely machined bits of gear and not generally serviceable (although some specialists say they can alter the internal shimming of new injectors to match the delivery pressures of a particular vehicle’s set).

And I definitely reckon rampant disc machining is a money-making scheme for brake specialists. I believe disc machining is unnecessary unless the disc has been badly scored by worn-down-to-the-steel pads or embedded stones, etc. To machine a layer of metal of the disc at every pad change is a rip-off. Sure, the pads might(?) bed-in a little sooner but that's debatable IMO.

On the other hand, Disco pads do seem to be bl**dy hard little b*gg*rs. AFAIK, our rear pads are still original at 190,000 km. I've been carrying a set of new pads around for over 60K kms, waiting to need them! But the discs still look pretty-well OK to me.

    I endorse Ian's comments.

re pads I have replaced the rears at 60,000 and the fronts at 120,000.

    The discs/rotors are still ok.

The diesel engine braking means that the brakes are used less often.

I know I drive hard, I get about 30 - 40,000 from rear had at least 4 set in rear, fronts about 80,000 average (one set) had three in front 186,000km.

First set from new rear 14,500km, front 60,000km work that out.

I use what ever Karcraft have good run out of & recommend, about $53 per pair, last set were Lockheed.

    Cheers
