    Defender tyre help needed

Hi just found and joined the site, (good work), so hope this question is not one of those that has been asked a million times.....
Has anyone tried 35" tyres on a stock defender? I have a 130 dual cab ute that I love to test out off road when i can. A lot of the local tracks are so well worn and blown out that my current tyres (238/85/16, approx 32") do not give me enough clearance. (the extra long wheel base on the 130 does not help).
Some local Landy lovers have virtually abused be for suggesting such a big tyre, saying it is sacrelidge....and I respect the purist approach....
But, it is purely out of a need for more clearance.
I know the speedo will be way out, my low gearing and highway power will suffer etc, but this is only for occasional use, I run stock tyres other times and are not going more than 50km/30miles from home base.
    So.....
Short version,.... will I have clearance problems? will I need a bit of body lift? will I get rubbing anywhere? will the offset of the wider rims should fix that? will I need thE replace the front flares with ones that give more clearance?
Also....If I run 15" rims, is there an issue with brakes/callipers or other front end underbody gear
Has anyone been there with this?
    Muchly appreciated for any assistance.

Body lift - good luck mate, dont even bother.
You can fit them to stock suspension but it will kill your flares.

2inch spring lift with slightly cut/moddified flares will do the job.

100mm backspace rims should be fine. Try and run a narrower tyre than 12.5 wide as they give bad clearance problems. somthing around 10 - 11inches wide is a great width for a LR.
Possible choices - Simex ET, Swamper Q78, Silverstone AFAIK.

    Theres no easy solution.

35s need a spring lift. As mentioned forget a body lift on a defender. I've got a 3" lift, for 35 10.50 15 Simex ETs, and it rubbbed the rear flares. The engineering certificate nazis wanted flare extensions. It needed a d/c drive shaft to get rid of the vibrations. Plus castor correction to the hubs. Etc etc. Have fun,

As suggested the body lift is a major exercise 8O and not to be attempted by the faint hearted and particularly if the aim is solely for putting on 35's:

The saga will go something like this:

Seperating the body from the chassis

Raising the firewall mounts on the front outriggers

Fabricating 2 pairs of chassis mounts

2 pair of spacers for the bulkhead mounts at the B pillar

5 pairs of spacers rear of the back seats

and last but not least the rear bumper.

And the stuff forward of the firewall

Then you have to align this lot with a now flexed body so that the doors shut.

I put 35 10.5/16 ET's on my 110 and only get a little rubbing on the back corners of the flares/eyelids.

Would only need slight mod to clear tyres ie heat and bend a little here and there.

The rubbing was only audible when the vehicles suspension was fully articulated.
    Cheers
