    rust

Hey Guys, any thoughts on removing small patches of rust from the foot weels....I have one small patch in the passenger side and two patches on the drivers.....I don`t think that it needs replacing altogether...... I have never had a car that I needed to get rust out of ...

any tips or tricks would be great

    Hi Brownie
Its possible to cut out the rust with a jigsaw and mig weld new patches in.If you arent up to welding you can make your new patch piece bigger and silicone/pop rivet the new section in,it shouldnt weaken the bulkhead if you use plenty of rivets.

I found it hard to weld the firewall neatly as it's so thin, can be done if attempted steadily with the wire feed and amps low.

Instant fix is carpet the floor.

I just did the Rangie drivers side floor.

First wire brush the rust, a good coating of Wattel Kill Rust Rust Eater (will not reoccur in same spot), an alloy patch pop rivetted to the outside of hole, then use Sellys Knead It (the one for steel dark grey colour), its a polymere putty that you roll together to get the two chemicals working that set rock hard and smooths out easy with a wet finger just before it goes off. It is permanent and will not fall out can be drill etc.

I used this in the old two door Rangie and it was in for years, it was initially temporary until I replaced the floor, as the holes were huge, but was so successfull never bothered to weld in new floor.

    Cheers

    Hi Glen,

It never let you down, it was good car for both of us, you probably never even noticed the patches, I think Dale put new carpet in after me & never said anything, he wouldn't have noticed any way only used Graeme Cooper for all his services did nothing himself.

I used to see it around now & then but not for a while though.

    Cheers

you can buy a new fire wall (defender not county) from landrover for about $1500. No bad value I thought after doing (and paying) for a few repairs.
