Looking to become a LR owner, please advise.

Hi, I have two LRs that i'm interested: 1st is a 1993 defender 2.5 200TDi its got 245000km new clutch at 230KM its listed on this site seller wants $11,900
Looks pretty good and the fit out is what i'm in search of.
Option 2: 1995 DEFENDER 110 Tdi 2.5 with 105000Km Full length roof rack, side steps, snorkel, driving lights, bullbar and dual batteries. Built in 60 litre water tank and built in slide out storage drawer. Tinted windows. Brand new shock absorbers fitted with lifetime guarantee. NO BEACH WORK. $18,000

My question is which one is better in the long run. I like the price of the first but high km. The second is nice but $6000 more.
I have heard the 93 is a better model?
Any advice is very much appreciated.
As well it may not be obvious but i am in the market for a touring LR to do a trip over the top 15000 to 25000 price range.
Thanks Gerard

Hi wise67, not sure but both of those prices seem a tad high.

Look around a bit more and I think you will see some bargain prices compered to those two.

A good disco cost less than that now days.

Because of the amount of people buying new vehicles, the prices of second hand vehicles is dropping rapidly and it pays to have a good look at prices for comparative vehicles before settling on any one vehicle you might see.

Cheers and if you get any LR I think you will be happy.

Find out the costs of the mods you require and if to high look for one that has the most of them done for you. A lot of the mods don't help the resale price.
I have no idea of the various values of the vehicles but would go by the red book for a guide.
Good luck

10-20k for a defender isnt that high, many of them are still attracting prices well above 20k for mid to lat 90's models.

In my opinion the one with the lower Km's is a better buy, provided it has been well serviced. Matt

THat's pretty good prices really, you should see what people ask for them here, talk about over inflated because we aren't connected to the mainland

The second vehicle looks the goods as it's got a lot of expensive accessories, but if it hasn't been regularly maintenanced, all bets are off.

I do not know about the price, but the best advise I can give is make sure that the vehicle has been well maintained by someone who knows Land Rovers.

Then, join the club. It will change your life ....

Any reason why you are just looking at Defenders?? I have nothing against them, but like Drivesafe said, Discos are just as cheap and more comfortable.

I would recommend a Rangie if you were not biased towards a diesel (but with fuel prices getting worse I don't blame you), lots of LR for little money. Saw a 94 Rangie Vogue SE on e-bay for less than 10K, really smick looking unit too (too nice for me though ).

Just a though. Good luck and hope you find a ripper

Thanks for all the support, Reason I have been focusing on the Defender is it appears to be a well built machine for going off road and the size is suitable for long journeys. I plan to go walkabout for a year or so and would like to carry some gear with me and be able to sleep in the back in a pinch. I have looked at some discos but find they are a bit flash, i'm more interested in someting i can go into the bush and not worry about a scratch or two.

I am pretty much sold on the 1995 with 105000km just have to do a pre-purchase inspection. Though i will be looking over the next week at many more. Its the relativly low km that keeps me coming back to this seller. I don't want to spend 20k and have to send it to the shop for repairs or addition gear. With the 1995 all i will need is a fridge and i'm set, oh yes, I will have to mount my kayak craddle and fishing rod holders and CD player but otherwise I expect to be one of you lot soon
Keep the support coming. Thanks a bunch.
