Defender Turning Circle and internal racks..

Probably a crazy question, but has anyone tried to modify the Defender (TD5) steering to avoid 20 point turns???

Also has anyone mounded racks for fishing rods and/or surfboards inside the vehicle to the roof?? Any ideas, suggestions would be great

Cheers
Jimmy

Havn't look into it. I just live with the turning circle of your average super tanker.

Guys,

Get yourselves a P38... You just drive over what's in the way...

G'Day Jimmy'

Have two rod holders on inside, they are S/S clips bolted to plastic liner as per pic, they are hard to see & are small, very old, normally to hold a broom to the wall of house. Then occy strap two others with small straps to stop rattling. I have done this both sides one holds 3 rods the other 2 rods.

Have been on for about 5 or 6 years now and no problems & travel over some very rough country, they never come out of the car.

The pic below shows fitted to both sides (not good shot of clips though)

I've also seen in the same place the hinge open type rod holders with black foam to hold them in place, normaly carried on the roof, these also worked, they carry up to four or five each if neccessary, well light rods any way.

Hope this helps
Cheers
Bryce

Surprisingly, the P38A whilst having the almost the same wheelbase (108"), it has a far better turning circle. But it ain't as good as the 100" RR or Disco. This I notice in car parks.

Turn your wheels hard one way and then have a look at the back of the front swivel hubs. You will see on each side an adjustable stop that can be screwed in slightly to reduce the turning circle. There is not much adjustment but it does improve things slightly. You could also grind some of the head off the stop.
If you have fitted larger tyres then the tyres could rub on the radius arms.

Thanks for your support Ron

I think that I need a dozer blabe to shift those other cars off the road some days... or a high powered laser to blast them to smitheroonies. Having my P38 enables me to see the traffic flow... much better than my old brumby!

Cheers,
Mick.

Check out the Scorpion Racing web site. They have some 30mm spacers which will sort out your problem. Cost around $800.00 though.

There is a dealer in Perth.

I am seriously looking at these!
