    Oxygen Sensor 3.5EFI V8 Rangie

Just wondering how hard it is to test/ replace the oxygen sensor on my 87 rangie.

my beast runs rich, blows a bit of smoke, runs rough sometimes, very gutless as well.

i have tried another air flow meter to no difference, i was talkin to a triumph guy and he said it sounded like the oxygen sensor.

Are these generic? or do i have to get a specific one?

    thanks,
    Shem McAllister

Are you sure it has one? My 1995 P38A Range Rover doesn't have them. I don't think they were fitted until 1999.

Check the exhaust downpipes. If you have them, there will be one on each down pipe.

My '86 RR didn't have them.

O2 sensors are generic, some have three wires as they're preheated by the ECU. They're located on the exhaust. I don't think my '88 Rangie has them.

ide put it all down to the compression ratio!
    thats if its 8.13:1.
ive replaced all the offending items in the search for the fix to your question!
the answer is there aint one!
you name it ive replaced it. the vacume advance unit dont do s%$t. i havent had one for 2yrs now and DW goes better with out it, and it dosent use any more fuel that before.

i think that we have already all agreed that i more than likely dont have a 02 sensor.

So discowhite - you reckon compression? if it is stuffed, how much would that be to fix?

BTW, i dont really wanna keep the rangie for long, so if anyone wants to make an offer

it probably isnt stuffed! what i was saying was that such a low compression
ratio will not burn the fuel mixture as well as say the 9.35:1 engine.(giving the sooty/hase out the exhaust)
i got bored the other day and did a cylinder leakage test and compression test.
leakage test showed all good at 25% per cyl and the comp test was between 145 and 155psi. these are factory figures and i was expecting
a 240 000 k engine to be alot worse than that. if youve seen me drive
my disco youde think i had stole it

what sort of smoke is it and when?? black blue white, first start of the day
    ideling or under load??

a compression test will tell you alot.

    phil.
