aftermarket aircleaner???
Fellas
I'm looking for an aftermarket air cleaner assy for my Isuzu, any one got any ideas or expearience with aftermarket air filters.
My limitations are, prefer plastic housing, easability of replacement filters, needs to have the inlet on the one side and the outlet on the other side, and preferable to be round to fit in existing brackets.
I've been told that Turbodyn make an exact match replacement for the original Isuzu item, but can't find them anywhere up here.

Hi,
We're talking 4bd1?
I used the existing filter housing and put a K&N in there.
Aside from all of the opinions against K&N, etc.
I bought a cylinder filter, fits a 300tdi filter housing, so too short for 4bd1. I cut a piece of 100mm or 150mm plumbing pipe, put a couple of closed cell foam donuts either end to make sure it's air tight. Putting the screws back on was a bit of a challenge, but worked great.
Please say that this is what you're after, I've got pix and can dig up model number and measure the bit of pipe if you want.
I thought I was just the cleverest thing on earth after I did this.
Cheers
Simon.

Turns out the clever guy left the building earlier.
Bastard also forgot to take good pix, too.
All I ended up with were about a dozen pix of the original filters and this one. DUH.
So, filter is an E-2590 - as you can see.
As you can also see from the amount of thread I've used to get the filter tight; there is a lot of free space in there so the length of the bit of pvc drain pipe doesn't really matter.
I put the pipe on the end closest to the engine. I had a really good reason at the time. I think it was that the air intake is right near the engine intake and I thought If I put the water pipe near the intake it would give the K&N more time to filter through the whole filter rather than that tiny bit down the bottom.
This air intake could maybe have been the dust dump, maybe.
Cheers
Simon.
I used to be clever.

Hmmm, different Pt. # to the K&N I had for a 300 Tdi, it was # 38-9028
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>Aside from all of the opinions against K&N, etc.
Only stayed there for 20,000km, as an air filter is supposed to do just that....
I thought the original housing for the Isuzu was a Donaldson FWG Cyclopac ??
If so, an element would be very easy to obtain. If you need a new housing and it is a Donaldson, you can buy them new.
Anyway, Donaldson or Nelson (Fleetguard) are your pick for complete filter housings.
Phone Donaldson and Fleetguard/Cummins and get them to fax the appropriate pages from their respective catalogues. (they don't have the appropriate pages online) They have many variations.
Donaldson's plastic housings are the Radial Seal FPG series, Fleetguard/Nelsons are the Dual Seal series. Elements are available from any truck spares place for either brand.
Both head offices are Hornsby-Gosford way, NSW.
I'm using a Donaldson element in the 300Tdi housing and it is stupidly cheap and very effective.

Well worth reading for anyone that uses K&N filters, or any other brand for that matter.

Larns, i know its a long way from Darwin but awhile back Andrew AKA LandyAndy mentioned a mob called FILTERS PLUS in Perth. thay are very
good to talk too and may be able to help.
for my 300tdi defender.
Baldwin PA 1667-FN air filter $18.00+GST
Baldwin BF 988 fuel filter $ 7.00+GST (not water seperator) If its bolcked you will ditch it and probebly the one after it in fairly short time =3x$7 not 3x$35 for fleetgard or $65 each from a L/Rdealer.
And the oil filter @ $6.00+GST
By the way thanks Andy.
somthing to think about
