Rocker Arms - 3.5 - 3.9l - are they the same ?
Well, are they?
Having embarked on stripping a 3.9 to rebuild and replace the tired 3.5, an inspection of the rocker arms shows that one in particular has the little metal cup insert, almost worn through.
I really have two questions: -
1. are the rocker arms the same in both motors? (they look the same - and I'm thinking replace the worn one with one from the current engine)
2. what are the possible causes for the unusual wear? ( it's only one of the arms the others are all OK)
and one more whilst the going is good: -
when I removed the rocker cover, sitting next to one of the valve springs (loose) was a small steel collar thingy, about 8mm in diameter and about 3mm wide. Any body know what this might be ? or is it jst one of those redundant bits like leftover nuts and bolts that I always seem to have?
TIA

rocker arms are the same! they are left and right though!
the wear you speak of is most likley from a valve thate not rotating
or there is not enough pre load for that rocker.(making it noisy)
make sure all the oil ways for the rocker feed are clean. they have a habit of blocking up with gunk in the head.
