    Engine swaps for freelanders

Has anyone heard of an engine swap for the 1.8 petrol k series engine in the freelander as I need a new engine for mine and a replacement k series is an expensive option

The short answer is no. Like later landrovers the various computers in the car talk to each other so it would not be a simple matter of just plonking in another engine.
eg the engine ECU talks to the security ecu which talks to the ABS and I am not sure but the airbags and explosive seat belt controllers are probably linked in there as well.

If you are looking at another engine the easiest would be a L series diesel as it will mate up to the gearbox but then the fuel system would need changing, a new ECU and loom etc etc etc etc - it starts to get messy.

The TD4 and V6 engines have different gearboxes so changeover issues would be even more complex.

So why do you need a new engine? - I assume you have had the ususal head gasket or slipped cylinder liner issues. They can be rebuilt.

Second hand K series engines sell for about $3500 and rebuilt from LR $5000-$8000 depending on who is telling the story.

Sorry I cannot help with what you can do but I hope this at least helps with options.

The site below has some interesting commentary on the K series engine and some of the sites listed in the posts may or may not be helpful.

Don't later model discoverys have explosive seat belt retractors in the case of accidents?
