Yes, I knew Mal was still there but I didn't know he did a locker for the P38A.
I had a MaxiDrive in my previous Rangie.
The last time I looked at the Bearmach catalogue they didn't have a P38A snorkel - but if you find a link and pix, please let me know.
Ron
Thanks Ron,
I saw saw a snorkel in a 4wd Mag that Bear Mach had just started production of for th P38A. If I find a part number I will let you know.
I was told that the maxi drives are much stronger the the ARB lockers because they also replace the axles would you agree???
re sahara bar I'll get some pics on the weekend (I put one on the wifes P38) 8)
bar is off / for a 2004 disco 2, no mods to bar had to do some cutting & welding on the 2 airbag "crumple" brackets that attach to the ends of the rail (ARB part not chassis)
and some slight trimming to the plastic inner guard
took 1 day to fit inc fitting round fog lights in the holes in the bar (as per late disco 2) & BIG driving lights
Bar is actually about 20mm per side too narrow but as you are aware when modding a P38 we have limited options so was best I could come up with besides full custom job
next jopb on it (afer x-mas) I'm fitting a HS2.8 turbo diesel 8)
= more low RPM torque and way less fuel consumption
Jase
dreaming of wife getting another car in 5 yrs so I can inherit the P38 for my offroader 8)
Will be interested to see how you go with that, I would love a TD5 P38A.Quote:

that looks so fantastic - is it dept. of Transport approved??? and how did you do it???
Thanks to Ron for postings Pics
it's dept of Jase's wife approved & as it's her car that was all that mattered to me at the time (need a bullbar for the local wildlife)
It's an airbag compatiable & ADR ect approved bar for D2 and that was good enough for me (in other words I'm not telling anyone)
Fitting
The D2 chassis is same width as the P38 but unfortunately trying to fit the bar straight on it is to high and fowls the bodywork by approx 30mm also the mount drill spacing is incorrect for P38 chassis
Actual fitting (from memory so forgive me if I miss something)
The brackets that mount to the chassis (fabricated box with airbag crush section) needed the top cut out to approx 50mm* from rear (to allow to sit lower over chassis) *check actual dimension on car
Extend side plates of the mounting brackets above approx 50mm* in hight & redrill to suit P38* chassis and lower the mountings on the chassis the bullbar will then fit car *check actual dimension on car
Bar will now fit car
from memory the washer bottle will need to be spaced slightly (I used oversize nuts) to clear the bullbar
Fit & wire D2 fog lights (or in my case I used Narva aftermarket fog lights but these took additional fabrication of brackets) to the 2 round fog light holes utilizing factory fog light wiring
The plastic inner guard needs to be heated with a heat gun and flexed in behind the corners of the bullbar for that factory neat look
was all done (bar hooking up the indicators) in a day

Have you had any experience with this???
I have never used ARB lockers and have maxi drive kit in my D2. From my research before buying, the biggest advantage of going maxi was that the locker kits came with axles - sounded good too me as I was adding a whole lot of strain to the set up with a locker. Also Mal reckons that you would have to try pretty hard to break any of his kit - depends on how hard you drive though and if you are using it for competition etc.
My reason for abusing my credit card with Mal was to toughen up my entire drive line. I know nothing about mechanics and want to avoid breaking something far from home!! After I fitted the bigger tyres I then fitted maxi 4.11 diff gears to bring my gearing back and at the same time fitted the rear locker - with the axles - front axles and new CV's. Rick at Rick's 4x4 also modified my tails shafts to take the extra abuse so fingers crossed, I wont be breaking anything soon!!
Best of luck and looking forward to seeing your car in action.
P.S. With the rear locker my car it is virtualy unstoppable and I don't think I will be fitting a front locker as I had concidered down the track.
Aye, Mick
