If the system was able to be primed then I think that the lift pump might not be the cause
It's worth reading this:

drain out as much fuel as you can from your tank and fill it with fresh fuel
to see if it makes any difference.....
also on the news today ....mobil caltex and i think shell have been selling
dodgy fuel and this could be the cause of your problems....
it all started when you filled up from your jerry......
i didnt have time to drop in today...as you probably realised......
i should have time tomorrow.....no school....
its up to you.....
Fuel from last jerrycan was bought six weeks ago.

Any joy?
Zook turned up.
Hmmm, hmm, hmm.
Lift pump.
Took him no time at all.
Lift pump is priming, but must have a hole in the diaphragm.
I never even thought that the air might be getting in via the lift pump. duh.
I didn't get it together to get one today, so first thing monday...
Cheapest price over the internet I could find was $117.

it all seems to point to that(pump).....
but it was doing something strange that still has me a bit sceptical....
before you spend any cash on it......
try starting it with a full tank to see what happens.....
have you fixed it yet....?
or are you just sitting around reading.....?

is it fixed yet????
Too wet, no shed, pretty sure it is the lift pump.
I'm imagining it got a pinhole when I was driving home the first day. Then when I started fiddling about and started pumping the primer I made the hold bigger.
There was an oil hose that ran just under the primer handle. To pump the primer I had to shift the hose out of the way. I wonder if it might have been forcing the primer handle to sit in the wrong place.
New lift pump monday when the house of cheap lift pumps opens.
Cheers
