    Turbo Blankets

Spotted a genuine Garret turbo blanket on a Puma on the weekend. Never seen one before, but have it on good authority they remove a lot of heat from inside a Defender.

Anyone able to share their experience, and advise where to get one for a 300tdi?

is the blanket just around the turbine?

you don't want it retaining the compressor heat.

    can't say I've seen one.

I have one on my Isuzu in the 6x6 and also had one on the County Isuzu for years. I am sure they do reduce a bit of heat around the turbo area under the bonnet and especially if you have the exhaust pipe heat wrapped. Haven't seen one on a TDI but I am sure that they are available. Probably on evilbay.

    Turbo Blankets

Plenty of generic ones on eBay. Can't see that there would be a lot of difference between a genuine Garrett one and generic.
Have been meaning to get one for the County as I'm sure it would help with under bonnet temps with EGT sitting at ~700C for hours on end when towing

Well actually no. An intercooler won't reduce underbonnet temps as the same heat load will still be going into the engine bay - or maybe even more. A turbo blanket or dump pipe heat wrap on the other hand moves some heat release further downstream past the engine bay

    Thanks for the reminder
Intercooler is still sitting happily in its box. Right next to the box with the heat wrap for the downpipe.........
