    Replacing timing belt and diesel/injector-pump.

    Hey there,
Anyone knows a good website / place around Melbourne to buy new or second hand diesel pump and new timing belt. My mechanic said that due to the leak in the diesel system it could be that the timing belt needs to be replaced. Timing belt has been changed on a LR Def 110, 300tdi at 215.000km and she is now at 304.000km. Would you change the timing belt as well or could I worry about that little bit later? (Basically procrastinate the bill).
    Thanks for the help!
    Cheers,
    Kyra

if it was done at 225 and its at 305 then its overdue anyway. but theres a margin. The belt gets gone at 80KKm and a belt thats done say 10K of that in 1 low has gone round the pullies a lot more often than one thats spent its life in 5 hi. how far you stretch it is your call. But my advice is if the pump is coming out most of the work to do the belt is most likely going to be done at that time so your going to be in front in the long run doing it now.

if your mechanic cant sort the injector pump leak (assuming it was your picture in another thread that looks like it could be the lift pump) you've got, get a better mechanic.

Thanks for your help! Well that's the thing, everyone says something else about the timing belt. But alright, it's not that I'm saying you are wrong because like I said, I don't know anything.

It's the leak a 'mechanic friend' quickly stated but after going to a garage what i previous said came out. I'm digging a little bit into this all a) I love knowledge b) don't trust a mechanic straight away.

you'll need to re read the post I originally put up Ive put an edit on it for the belt.

what you need to do is to get into the engine with a good degreaser and a gurney to get it clean.

get it dry and then talc the engine around where the leaks are. start it and run it till you can first notice the leaks and then get some pics.

with pics of the exact leak its surprisingly easy to redo the head end of the injector pump, you dont even need to remove it.

If its leaking diesel out the timing cover leak out holes thats a different story.

Seems like I need to head back to the garage and check it out. It was spewing a lot actually, so now I think about it, could easily be more leaks.

As for the timing belt, I already had a feeling it needed to be changed and will feel like a complete idiot now if I don't let them do it. Definitely not an DIY.. Do you know a good website to order the parts from? Problem is though that every timing belt kit has a slight difference in amount of pieces.

Thank you so much for your help.
