fitting jerry can holders and central locking - Defender

You just need to lock, then unlock, with the key from outside ( on mine )

Central Locking is on my to do list, but I'm not sure what to do about the rear door. There is a tab ( broken on mine ) to lock it from inside but I'll need to make another box to hold the actuator.

Jerry can holder as pictured, very strong use as step up onto roof rack....towbar, jerry can, wheel holder then roof no need for ladder at all.

only two holes need to be drilled , bottom holes already in bottom rail, sticker over holes where number plate light sat.

Only LR could hold their car owners in such contempt so as to retain such an awful locking system that required 5 different keys:

Ignition
Front doors
Rear door
Bonnet
Centre console.

Ron I'd suggest you may have a bodge job, or lost key situation needing new locks fitted at some stage other than 1. Ignition 2. centre console 3.other flat key to open rest, I'd almost be sure not 5 keys to open, certainly not on brindo75 county.

I'll ask the previous owner (I used to work with him) - he bought the car when it it was about 18 months old.

Check with a dealer. They'll match the chassis no. to one of the two frequencies used, sell you a key zapper, & you're in business.

I've had it since almost new, there a couple of others in LROC that come to mind that have also had it done.

What year up had central locking fitted and not connected? I believe they did something similar with alarms. might have to rip the door panels off and have a squizz. I know the 2003 models up have central locking and alarms.

presumably you have an earlier 110 with the round pull up pin on the inside to lock the door and lift up handles.

if so due to the rather odd locking arrangments ie. different from inside/outside etc and the fact that turning the key in the door lock only actually prevent the handle from being lifted as opposed to operating any of the linkages behind the door trim, may i suggest that you fit a remote central locking kit.

doing this means you can forget about using the key. pressing the button on the remote will "pull down" and "push up" the locking button in the door trim which will lock/unlock independant of the handle lock.

hope it all makes sense.

by the way, i have a 1985 110 CSW with lift up handles and remote locking is on the to do list. suppliers of key operated central locking systems say they wont work as the door lock only isolates the handle as stated.
